Guess about time for a new update!
First of all, we were kinda joking about getting sponsors, but some of you asked about some bankaccount number.

OK, Where was I.....
As I said in the previous story, we did some starwatching. WOW, That was really something else! We have never seen so many stars! Lake Tekapo is the closest place on earth to the stars. We went there by little bus, at past 11pm, up the hill we had to drive with the lights out! Scary, but hey....the driver knew what he was doing. On top of the hill, there was no light at all, we walked to this special place. There were 2 telescopes, huge ones! And the stars we saw, incredible! We even saw saturn!!! The planet with the ring around it, my gosh, couldn't believe it! It was really worth seeing it.
Next day we kinda relaxed in the hot pools. The view ofcourse magnificent!
Mountains, lake, just perfect!
At nite we had dinner at a nice stonegrill restaurant. The people sitting next to us, had left Christchurch, were they live. They are staying with family in Geraldine, and yes dad, that is a town, but I can understand you thought it was a person, ;-)
Maybe there lives a lady named Geraldine in Geraldine...........
About 350.000 people have fled CHCH.
They don't know when they will go bakc home, but right now, it is not safe there. Still no water and electricity in some parts of the city.
Tuesday we left to go to Mount Cook, but at the beginning of the lake, we coudn't see the mountain, so we drove on to Lake Benmore. There was a cute little campground, with our own, privat shower and toilet. Kinda lika an outhouse. There was no shop at the campground, in my guide it said there was and also a swimming pool, but we didn't see that either, yeh, maybe the mend the lake on the other side of the road...;-)
anyway, the owner let us borrow his car, so we could do some grocerie shopping. I finally got the guts to drive, :biggrin: It al went well.
At the supermarket we wanted to buy some ground beef for a pasta and I found something what looked like it. Minced beef it said...........Well, Carin found out is was dogfood!!!

At 12.51 pm that day there was a nationwide 2 minutes silence for all the earthquake victims. We watched it on tv and it was pretty touching.
Tears rolled again over our cheeks.
In the afternoon we took a short walk, beautiful area, so quiet and peaceful! At nite as well. Only there were a lot of lakeflies, they sound like musquito's, terrible. I wanted to use to outhouse to go the to toilet, but the door was black of all those flies! Gross! So I went back into the camper and ofcourse I brought bakc some of those flies...
I had a fight with one of them in the camper in the middle of the nite, Carin thought I was attacked by a wild annimal...........
My bed in the camper is up high, Carin thinks she doesn't fit in there, because of her long leggs. So I have to climb in there every nite, bump my head every now and then if I turn over, but it is a nice bedstee, that is what I call it.
We stayed at lake Benmore for 1 nite, cause we wanted to go to Oumaru. We past this little town, Otematata, really wanted to stay there, cause I was thinking of Hakunamatata from the Lion king, and thought maybe we will be in a setting like the lion king, ;-)
But we past the town before we even knew it.
Oumaru, by the ocean, where we stayed 2 or 3 nites. You know, I don't even remember, gosh, our minds don't really work here, do they?
But anyway, we are having fun and enjoying all the nature. My thing to do is, since I haven't driven yet, to empty our toilet! Did it right the first time! Not really a nice thing to do, but hey, part of my job. And I am the navigator. Carin does real well driving our home!
One of those nites we were in Oumaru, we did the penguin tour. Gosh, too cute those little annimals. First we saw the yellow eyed penguins, from a distance, took some photo's, hope they came out nice. Also there were a few seelions.
There were some japanese female tourist and they got a little excited when they saw the penguins! They sounded like if they got a you know what............
At last we went to this place where we saw the little blue penguins. We had to sit in a tribune, be quiet and weren't allowed to take pictures. And there they came, walking in a colony 20 together at the time, so cute, they came out of the ocean, walked up the rocks to there habitat, on land. Once they were settled, they made a lot of noice, females, calling the males and vice versa. That nite there were about 70 little blue penguins.
On the way to the bus, we saw a group of little penguins, on the street. And ofcourse some stupid tourists, came close, took photo's with flash, while they were told not to do those things. Very sad for the penguins, because they got scared.
In Oumaru was a little dutch bakery, so we had coffee with speculaas and bought some real nice dark bread, because the new zealanders don't know how the bake bread.
Oh, yeh, we had some really "nice" neighbors on the camground. He thought he knew everything better, told us to avoid Christchurch, cause his hotel had collapsed, which wasn't thru, blah blah, blah, He didn't even want to know our story, because it was just him he was talking about. Well, today we are in Dunedin, on the way up here saw the Mouraki boulders, see photo's. Got here yesterday, nice campground, saw those nice neighbors again, they are following us............help!!!
Went to town yesterday by bus, is a bit too far to walk. In every bus here they have music, all kinds, even classical.
We cooked our dinner in the kitchen of the campground. That is nice, because you meet other people. I saw those 2 dutch guys that were staying at the same hostel in Christchurch.
We met this retired couple, our nice neighbors, english aussies. They remind us of Archie and Edith Bunker from "All in the family" She talks just like Edith! Cute couple.
Today rain in Dunedin. So far we have been lucky with the weather, so we can't complain.
Oh, guess what, I received an email from hostelworld.com how my stay was at the hostel in Christchurch............ So did Carin........Well, what can I say..........a bit shaky maybe and they still owe us some nites?
Well, tomorrow we are gonna do a Peninsula tour, including hopefully spotting albatrosses, more penguins and seelions. Ton and Anneke, the privat tour was a bit too expensice for us.
Thursday we are doing the overnite cruise in Doubtful sound. So, the weather better get better......
OK folks, I guess this waas it, not exciting stories this time, sorry!

Nadat ik je mailtje en verslag had gelezen belde jij op. Fijn om je stem te horen en je klonk zo goed.Ik kon daaraan horen dat het beter met je gaat.
Je kunt goed vertellen.Ik moet zeggen van tante Aaf dat je de gave hebt om zo'n verslag te meken.

jemig meiden wat zien en maken jullie weer prachtige dingen mee en geweldig je verslag en foto s lou. alleen nog wel moeilijk voor mij te lezen in het engels gelukkig hebben we kinders om ons heen die het vertalen. We zijn trots op jullie dat je de draad weer opgepakt hebt. Rijd de camper goed ? We hebben gelachen om de foto van het legen van jullie toilet, hoort er ook bij .
Lieverds geniet nog 3 weken van mooie natuur kunst cultuur en niet te vergeten rust.

Still thinking of you guys! Dit begint écht op vakantie te lijken ;)! Heerlijk je verslag. Inderdaad of je d'r bij bent. Wat een schattige wezentjes hè, die pinguins. En ja, overal en altijd heb je mensen die zich alleen bekommeren om hun eigen belang - of dat nu een ongewenst vakantiekiekje is of het niet luisteren naar anderen.
Hier lekker weekend; gister Eriks birthday party in de Nozem gevierd. En ja, ook hier waren jullie weer onderwerp van gesprek. We hebben je gebombardeerd tot de 2e bekende Nederlander in het team!! Naast stoere Roel, die soms als een trein je huiskamer binnendendert via de beeldbuis :lol:

Lekker de smaak te pakken nu. Super hoor! En wat grappig dat jullie eigenlijk precies ons spoor volgen. Staan de afdrukken van onze fietsbanden soms in het asfalt? Gaaf hè, sterretjes kijken.
En dan die foto's van Oamaru, wat een herkenning! Race niet te snel door The Catllins als je naar Te Anau gaat. Bij Curio Bay tref je wellicht waanzinnig grote zeeleeuwen op het strand.
Heel veel plezier op Doubtfull Sound. En als je met de boot van Chris gaat: lekker je eigengevangen vis eten. Blader eens door het gastenboek: 28 januari 2007.....

Oom Wim en tante Truus zijn zo blij dat jullie er nog zijn. Zij hebben ook alles op tv gezien en heel veel aan je gedacht. Nu hebben we de mooie foto's bekeken en schieten af en toe vol wanneer we jullie op de foto zien. Goddank leven jullie nog. Heel veel liefs en nog een hele fijne tijd daar.
Wat stoer Carin zoals jij met die camper rijdt en Lou ise de wc schoonmaakt! Nogmaals veel liefs van ons en tot ziens. -
