Well hi there,
I must apologize for not writing the last 2 weeks. Most of you have facebook and could see some updates now and then, but internet café's are rare theses days and so it was not possible to write this weblog and post pictures. But here I am, posting my last story.
Got home a few days ago and I must say, pffffffffffffff, hard to adjuste, from 33 degrees Celcius in Melbourne, to -5 degrees thursday night!
But hey, we have had an A-MA-ZING VA-CA-TION!
Last time I wrote we were in Adelaide, we stayed there for almost 2 days. Iw was 38 degrees Celcius! We went to Glenelg beach, nice beach, but some people told us to go to the next beach, Haley beach, well, much nicer and cozier! We went swimming, the water was not as blue as in Tasmania, but warmer it was. Saw a nice sunset as well.
Next 2 days we were gonna be in the Barossa valley, the wine valley of Australia. We had already picked up a rental car, a huge one, but we could manage it. In the Barossa valley it was 41 degrees Celcius when we got there. Bloody hot I tell you! We stayed at a campground with a nice little cabin. In the afternoon we went to the Jacob's Creek winery, the big sponosr of the Australian open. The next day we went to a lot of wineries. Yalumba, Pentfold, Seppolts Field, Grant Burch Wines, Charles Melton, Rockford and St. Hallett. Too much to taste! It was a bit cooler though, 20 degrees! Had rain suring the night. Strange, how the weather van change all of a sudden.
After all the winetasting we had to move forward, to the Grampians National Park. It was a day of driving, 540 orso kilometres. The roads are a bit winy and hillery, so it took us pretty much all day, including stopping here and there.
Halls Gap is where we stayed for 2 days at a very nice chalet with a bubble bath and in the back yard were I don't know how many kangaroos!!! Soooo cute and unbelieveble!
The Grampians is a very nice and bieautiful national park. We did some climbing to Pinnacles Point. Worth the climb, because the view was amazing! Pretty high, good enough for bungee jumping.
We also visited an Aboriginals center, which was very interesting.
Now on route to Port Fairy, on the coast, near where the Great ocean road starts. Point Fairy is a nice little town, where we stopped for a bit to see the light house. Then we drove to Warrnambool, a town almost next door, where we stayed the nite. We were invited for a bbq at Paul, nice english guy we met during our Tasmania tour. He works in Australia now. Grest bbq we had and it was a lot of fun.
The next day we started the Great ocean road. The Great Ocean Road is a road along the south coast of Australia. The path of more than 240 kilometers between the cities of Torquay (to the east) and Warrnambool (to the west), both in the state of Victoria. It is one of the world's most scenic coastal drives, and you see the 12 Apostles, iconic surf breaks and waterfalls. Really beautiful. Our first part, the 1st day, we had blue sky and lots of sunshine. After we got to Lorne, a nice little beach town, we had rain, rain and rain. Very scary driving along the steep walls of rocks. Sometimes rocks fell on the road. Pretty scary. We got to Torquay, the end, or beginning of the great ocean road.
The last part of our journey was about to start, 6 days Melbourne!
I tell you, I fell in love with this city! We had a nice appartment in a very nice neighborhood, the Fitzroy. Beautiful area, lots of shops, bars, reataurant, icecream stores! The day after we arrived there it was my birthday. Very nice to have at least once a birthday in shorts with lots of sunshine!
We did a bbq and I had invited Mike and Paula, this older couple I met in New Zealand 4 years ago. They live 3 hours driving north of Melbourne and they came over. It was really nice to see them! According to Irene and Irma, they want pretty much adopt me! Mike did de Q. We also invited Clare, she was on the Tasmania tour as well, also British and living and working in Melbourne. It was a great birthday and evening!
Saturday we went on tour with Silvia, this lady thet Irene met in Holland last year, happend to be the cousin of one of her best friends! So, we had a private tour guide, she showed us a lot of Melbourne, on foot! In the evening 2 other friends of her, who were also in Holland last yeear, came over to our appartment, as was Hetty, the cousin of 1 of my colleguages! Small world it is!
Anf then al of a sudden is the vascation almost to an end. 4 more days left and the next 3 days sport events! Irene and I went to a cricket game, Australia-India. I wanted to I THE national sport in Australia. And also since my dad has been a pretty good cricket player, long time ago, I just wanted to let him know how it is to see a cricket game down under. It sure was amazing! The staium was nog full, only 35000 people, it fitts 105.000! Crazy, enthousiastic people, mostly Indians! But hte Australians who were ther, were cheering, doing the wave, yes, we did too! Australia won, but it was a long game. Started at 2.30 pm, finishec at 10 pm!
Next day, jaja, tennis at the Rod Laver stadium and other courts! We went for 2 days and it was great! Saw many players, Nadal, Federer, V Williams, Hewitt and more, also dutchies ofcourse.
I really like Melbourne! I think I fell in love with this city. Everything is nice, Federation square, where you can sit in a lounge/beach chair and watch tennis on a big screene, strolling along the Yarra river, festivals, the Melbourne star, (a giant ferris wheel) The Fitzroy district, st. Kilda, the Morlington Peninsula, the shrine of Rememberance, the Australian open and more.
After all, we had an amazing vacation and I also speak for Irene and Irma.
We now know what Bogan's are, thanks to our Tasmania guide Rhendon. You can compare a Bogan with a red neck/Tokkie. Salmon is very cheep and delicious! Gasoline is very cheep! $1,15 per liter which is more or less 77 euro cent per liter! We had wine every day, I think we like it, we are happy we met all the new people we now know. The Tasmania tour was just an AMAZING experience and adventure. Thanks to Wied, thanks for telling me about this tour! Australia is a beautiful country and I will be back!

Too much to remmenservice, so everyday Some new memories come up: o ja... We did thuis and that too!
We did. Lot, saw great things, met fun people in those 5 weeks and o ja.... Those Kangaroos and koala's!!! Love them!
